After pressure from activists and some Democratic Presidential candidates concerned about the quickly approaching Climate Change disaster, CNN has agreed to host a Climate Crisis town hall on the topic. Many wanted the Democratic candidates to face-off on the topic in a debate setting but the DNC would not sign-off on a Climate Change focused debate.
Currently 9 candidates have qualified to appear at the CNN town hall. All but one have accepted CNN’s invitation. California Senator Kamala Harris has declined claiming a “scheduling conflict.” Zohreen Adamjee of ABC news is reporting that on the date of the forum Harris is scheduled to attend fundraisers hosted by big-money bundlers in Los Angeles.
RL Miller of Climate Hawks Vote is calling on Harris to reconsider missing the Climate Crisis town hall to attend big-money fundraisers.
[...] Kamala Harris has been sharp in identifying that climate is not just another issue, it’s a crisis -- but she is one of the very few Presidential candidates who has not released a detailed climate plan.
And now she’s declining CNN’s invitation to its climate town hall. Because fundraisers. Seriously.
If Senator Harris’ high dollar donors really believe that climate change is a crisis, they’ll be gracious when she reschedules the fundraiser events to attend the CNN town hall. If they don’t, she shouldn’t be taking money from people who don’t treat the climate crisis seriously. Rescheduling the fundraisers would send a powerful message that Senator Harris will prioritize climate in office.
Climate Hawks Vote is not endorsing any candidate during the presidential primary but did endorse Harris during her successful 2016 senatorial race.
