Watching Jake Tapper’s State of the Union this a.m. nearly had me phoning my clinic for a RX for blood pressure pills! Ohio’s Republican Representative Jim Jordan sounded like a neurotic, hysterical adolescent, trying to justify Trump’s Ukrainian debacle. He kept insisting that beleaguered Pres. Zelensky had totally cleared Trump of any suspicion of strong-arming him into digging up dirt on Hunter Biden. (In watching a re-run of Zelensky’s taped sit-down with Trump, it is interesting to note how Trump finished the Ukrainian president’s remarks for him.) In truth, the Ukrainian president was trying desperately to keep his balance - - walking the tightrope between Trump’s withholding of Congressionally approved 391 million in military aid to the Ukraine, while not being able to manufacture “dirt” for Trump on Hunter Biden (who has long since been cleared by at least 3 Ukranian prosecutors of any political wrongdoing). Obviously Trump was using all his might of office to strong arm Zelensky. No matter, Jim Jordan kept on hammering the Trump camp’s time worn chants of “false Russian collusion” by the Democrats and irrationally referring to the whistleblower’s statement as hearsay (despite the fact that first hand knowledge is NOT required for a whistleblower to present his/her facts to the appropriate authorities and the fact that Joe Maguire said the Ukrainian transcript backed up the whistleblower’s accusations against Trump). Jordan kept reiterating that Hunter earned $50,000 per month by being on the board of a Ukrainian company while brushing aside Jake Tapper’s questions as to whether or not Ivanka and the rest of the Trump offspring should be allowed to rake in the dough on their various international enterprises. Jordan also, on FOX news, criticized Hunter for getting the job in the Ukraine in “an area he has no experience in” ! What colossal hypocrisy, considering the fact that Ivanka and her hubby get to travel the globe as representatives of the US government with hardly enough credentials to represent MacDonald’s. Jordan followed the Trump playbook perfectly, which is to keep repeating falsehoods over and over and over ad nauseam, ignoring any and all facts that disputed what he was saying, and generally making an ass of himself. If I were Jake Tapper, I’d have been sorely tempted to dump the contents of my coffee cup on Jordan’s head. Oh how I long for the days of the calm, quiet voice of reason. What would FDR say, I wonder?
