Two major polls out this morning provide some very bad news for Trump from the polling world.
First one out was the ABC/Ipsos poll that measured what people think of Trump’s conduct.
A full 64% of Americans consider it a serious problem that “Trump encouraged the Ukrainian President to investigate Joe Biden and his son, Hunter.” Only 17% of Americans find it “Not serious at all”. That is the crowd the Trump White House has convinced that it was Trump’s obligation to ask this from the Ukrainian President to combat “Corruption” from our previous administration, the favorite talking point trotted out by Giuliani, Jim Jordan, Steve Miller on this morning’s political news shows. 17%, folks, who believe in that excuse.
Matching that number are the people who are actually surprised by the fact that President Trump would commit such an egregious act, a law breaking campaign finance allegation.
ABC News: Only 17% of Americans surprised by Trump's actions tied to Ukraine: POLL
Nearly two-thirds of Americans believe President Donald Trump's encouragement of a foreign leader to investigate Trump's political rival and his family is a serious problem, but only 17% said they were surprised by the president's actions, according to a new ABC News/Ipsos poll.
The poll, conducted by Ipsos in partnership with ABC News, asked Americans about a July phone call between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy in which Trump urged his Ukrainian counterpart to work with his personal attorney Rudy Giuliani and U.S. Attorney General William Barr to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden and his son, Hunter, according to a memo released by the White House.
Your President of the United States, people, where only 3%, THREE PERCENT, are “Very Suprised” that their President engaged in a shakedown of the Ukrainian President, withholding vital and life saving military aid to the tune of $400 Million Dollars to press him to find or fabricate dirt on his potential political opponent for the 2020 election. That’s how numb people are anymore to this creep’s shenanigans. 3 PERCENT!
Meanwhile, CBS just published a poll that shows that 55% of Americans are now pro Impeachment inquiry, with 45% opposed.
CBS News: CBS News poll: Majority of Americans and Democrats approve of Trump impeachment inquiry
Almost nine in 10 Democrats approve of the inquiry, and two-thirds strongly approve. Prior to the inquiry, some had wondered if taking up impeachment proceedings might divide a Democratic rank-and-file that has been long concerned with other policies like health care and guns. However, these findings suggest that it this is not the case: most moderate Democrats side with liberal Democrats in supporting impeachment proceedings. Of those who say they voted for a Democratic House candidate in 2018, nine in 10 feel this inquiry is necessary.
Now, what about an actual impeachment vote, which is different from an impeachment inquiry? As of right now a plurality of Americans want to see Trump impeached:
42% of Americans say that Trump deserves impeachment. 36% say the he does not deserve impeachment. For 22% it is too soon to say.
Things are rapidly falling apart for Trump, and the American people are taking notice. Happy Sunday, everyone.
