No other candidate produced a more pitch perfect soundbite BEFORE this calamitous turn of events, beginning with the looting and burning of the world’s largest US Embassy in Baghdad by a militia we were currently backing, and continuing with the reckless and disproportionate drone assassination of one of Iran’s most senior military officials, than Bernie Sanders.
This is now my new number 1 reason for supporting Senator Sanders (and 1.8 million unique donors with more combined contributions than any other US campaign in history at this stage, making Bernie the undisputed leading fundraiser in the Dem Primary despite “having one hand tied behind his back” by refusing billionaire, PAC and lobbyist contributions, to quote another candidate, presumably agree, which matters, since this will now be the issue Trump runs for reelection on). There was already no other choice on Medicare for All, Inequality, the Environment, Labor Union rights, etc. in my humble opinion, but we all thought that Trump was at least less hawkish than the average Republican (and a scary percentage of DoD-friendly Dems as well), and that Bernie’s strong mastery of peaceful foreign policy practice, such as authoring and passing a bipartisan anti-Yemeni war resolution through the Senate that in turn passed the house, could be relegated to a second tier issue, but no more. Bernie is the ONLY credible anti-war candidate. He has not only avoided POSITIVELY supporting or participating in war, he has taken exceedingly difficult votes AGAINST it, at his own political peril, and been proven right by history time and time again.
