A standard of responsible journalism is that opinion does not belong on page 1. Certainly, it does not get “Above the fold”.
Sometime in the last 50 years the NY Times adherence to that standard was loosened slightly by the occasional use of a “News Analysis” on page 1, but even such are not expected to be flat-out opinion; and rarely would they appear above the fold.
As can be seen in the illustration, on todays page 1 above the fold of the print edition the Times’ words about Trump are
- “desperate”
- “brazen”
- “subvert”
- “unprecedented”
- “interfere”
- “brute”
The web edition of the top right article is a good synopsis of the recent attempts by the orange buffoon to go against the will of the voters, but the really interesting News Analysis says that success is both extremely unlikely and would be even worse than the “His Fraudulency” Rutherford B. Hayes.
