I only have two eggs left and a loaf and a half of bread.
I have a few boxes of cereal and three cartons of almond milk which doesn’t need to be refrigerated until they are opened.
Otherwise I have food enough to last for a month.
I live in a senior facility where if strict stay in your abode rules need to be implemented food will be delivered to your door. I’d rather not be dependent on them. I live in a free standing duplex with plenty of storage space so by taking care of my foods needs myself the staff can attend to other residents.
When my food supplies get low I will avail myself of the local Fred Meyer (part of the Kroger chain) for home delivery which costs only $10.00. The website...
“remembers” every purchase I’ve made for all I know the past six years since I began to shop there.
I am going to ween my dogs off the Hill’s sensitive stomach canned dog food that only the vet carries onto a similar Hill’s product with different ingredients that Amazon will deliver.
My facility has about 500 residents most over the age of 70, and many are in their 80’s, 90’s and a few over 100, is taking prudent precautions. As expected in this age group some have comprising health conditions. Everyone coming in from the outside is being screened by answering a few questions but last I heard we aren’t taking their temperatures. It may be we don’t have enough infrared non-contact forehead thermometers to make this feasible. Hopefully enough of them are available for fast online ordering.
I am following the shelter at home precautions strictly. This is easier for me than for those who live in the buildings here since I can walk the dogs outside and get fresh air without walking through hallways. I’ve put two chairs outside my patio to if people want to stop by to visit we can sit outdoors six or more feet apart.
I figure that if I do this, while my risk of contracting coronavirus in minimal, it can’t be zero.
I cancelled a dental hygiene appointment for tomorrow and the dentist said they are in the process of cancelling all of these non-emergency appointments for patients who were over 70.
I am 76 and in good health and I want to stay that way so I admit that while I feel I am behaving in a responsible way by following the public health guidance I admit that I do not handle being sick very well. Okay, I am something of a hypochondriac and a wussie.
I read several articles that if you do get Covid-19 you should not use ibuprofen to bring down your fever and that Tylenol (Acetaminophen) was preferable. There are mixed opinions on this but I figured better safe than sorry. My Tylenol expired in 2013 so I went online to order some and no vendors could deliver before next week. Mine are due to come next Wednesday.
I have a friend whose thermometer wasn't working and she discovered that none were even available on Amazon.
I have a friend back in Massachusetts where there is a shelter at home order. She is stuck in her house with her husband and eight year old. At least she has a backyard, however her washing machine is leaking inside the wall so she is doing her laundry in the bathtub.
There are people suffering far more than we all are. Many are sick already with conditions that put them in a high risk group, or have family members who they are very worried about. Those who are face the prospect of having no money and waiting for the Trump administration to help financially are getting mixed messages about whether they can believe the promises coming from Trump and the lackeys who have been lying for weeks.
Not only that, there are people who need hospital treatment for life threatening conditions other than Covid-19 and are at risk of not having enough medical staff for their inpatient treatment. Another example, what about outpatient treatment centers for dialysis being short-staffed?
What happens when an entire fire station is under quarantine, or ambulance services are curtailed because EMT’s are also under isolation orders?
The infuriating part of all of this, like any of us need to feel more stress, is that had Trump not treated this like a political crisis, the United States could be weeks ahead in coping with the pandemic. He thinks he can lie his way out of culpability.
