Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, a rising force in the Democratic Party, is endorsing Joe Biden ahead of her state’s crucial primary.
Whitmer announced her support Thursday on MSNBC’s "Morning Joe." Biden is expected to campaign Monday in Detroit; it would not be a surprise to see Whitmer by his side there.
"I think that the blueprint from 2018 about showing up, focusing on the dinner table issues, and getting things done is exactly what Joe Biden represents," said Whitmer, referencing the 2018 Democratic wave that helped sweep her into office, "and that's why he's got my enthusiastic support and my vote on Tuesday."
This is a big get before Michigan votes on March 10th and it adds to team Biden’s momentum since South Carolina and Super Tuesday.
A recent Michigan poll shows Biden surging there and with a 7 point lead. The poll was done before Super Tuesday, which also bodes well for Biden.
This poll also lists Bloomberg at 10.5%, who exited the race and endorsed Biden. His voters will likely shift to Biden.
The Detroit News/WDIV-TV (Local 4) survey of 600 likely Michigan Democratic primary voters found Biden leading Sanders by nearly 7 percentage points. Biden garnered 29% to 22.5% for Sanders, the self-defined democratic socialist, among Democratic voters who overwhelmingly said the top issue is which candidate has the best chance of unseating President Donald Trump.
…..
"What we saw in our numbers each night (of the poll) was a huge Biden surge," pollster Richard Czuba said.
Another big story in this poll, African American voters are once again speaking loud and clear. They continue to power Biden’s comeback.
Biden's lead in Michigan is buoyed by strong support among African Americans and voters over 50. Black voters support Biden over Sanders, 41% to 16%.
An important little extra here. Hillary Clinton was on Fallon last night and Jimmy asked her why do people connect with Joe Biden.
Hillary’s response is amazing. I love her!
