Last week, when I wrote about Representative Kim Daniels of Florida, I told readers in the comments that there was far too much ugliness about her to fit in just one diary. So, here we are again, talking about her. This is a time when the Democratic Party needs to stand for racial justice, for equality for all, for transparency in government, for protection of religious minorities, and for ethical, honest governance.
Kim Daniels fails on every single one of those points.
We’re in a crisis here in America: our government is being pushed closer and closer to authoritarianism by a man whose lust for wealth and power overrides all other concerns (who am I kidding? He has no other concerns); his administration is full of people actively fighting transparency and accountability in government so our nation can be plundered by oligarchs; our President’s re-election campaign is dog-whistling not just to white supremacists, but actual neo-Nazis; a known white nationalist is the architect behind the human rights atrocity that has been the border camps, where asylum seekers have been torn from their families, deported back to certain torture and death, and children have been left to die in the Texas sun; during a time when the demand for racial justice has reached a boiling point, the President is repeating racist rhetoric from the civil rights era and campaigning at the site of an infamous massacre of African Americans. This is a time to reject, forcefully and without reservation, the hate and corruption spreading like a cancer.
We can start right here, with the most abominable DEMOCRAT in Florida. I said she fails on every point I listed:
- Equality for all? Kim Daniels has claimed homosexuality is caused by demonic possession (and she can exorcise it from you), and has cursed (her words) gay pride, denounced homosexuality as an “abomination”, and declared “witchcraft...is working behind the scenes of the homosexual agenda” and ranted that homosexuals want “more than equality, they want favoritism”
- Transparency in government? Kim Daniels received an F- (not a typo, an F MINUS) for her work in actively fighting it during her tenure as a lawmaker. In a very Trumpian parallel, she’s happy to block constituents from her Facebook page, denouncing them as enemies of the faith and outsiders in their own community.
- Protection of religious minorities? Kim Daniels wants every school in Florida to be required to offer a class on bible studies, but refuses to even consider teaching the Koran or other holy texts in this allegedly “objective” class. Christianity only in our schools. When she pushed successfully to get “In God We Trust” back in schools, she means her God ONLY.
- Ethical, honest governance? This is a woman who has openly admitted filing false financial disclosures, and who is fighting a lawsuit after allegedly firing a staffer in retaliation for blowing the whistle on her.
- Racial Justice? Kim Daniels doesn’t think we need racial justice. She thinks slavery was a gift from God:
I posted this video again because if you haven’t seen it yet, you really need to. Even if you have, it might take a couple viewings to truly get what you’re seeing: a black woman preaching the blessings of SLAVERY, from the pulpit no less! Preaching that the Holocaust, the horrific slaughter of millions (including many members of my own family) is no big deal because “the Jews own everything”.
We as a party cannot accept this. We cannot allow this to go on, for this hateful woman to remain one of our standard bearers. Luckily, we don’t have to. Kim Daniels’ seat is a solid blue bastion in Florida, the kind of seat where Republicans won’t even run a candidate of their own anymore. That means in just under two months, the primary election is where this seat will be won. We can put a real Democrat in that seat, by supporting Angie Nixon, a fighter and dedicated community servant who has poured her heart and soul into providing the people of her community the help and support they need. This isn’t just about securing a seat in one of the nation’s toughest battlegrounds, it’s not just about giving people a reason to turn out to vote during the most critical election of our lifetimes, it’s about who we want to be as a party: Kim Daniels, or Angie Nixon?
I choose Angie Nixon, and so should you all.
