LATEST March 23, 2 p.m. Less than a week after her harrowing attack nabbed international headlines, 75-year-old Xiao Zhen Xie wants to donate all the proceeds from her GoFundMe to combat anti-Asian racism.
Since the attack, the swelling in her eye has decreased and she "is in better spirits," her grandson, John Chen, said.
But she plans on donating all the funds raised in her GoFundMe — a sum of more than $900,000 — "back to the Asian American community to combat racism."
"She insists on making this decision saying this issue is bigger than [h]er," Chen said. "This is my grandma, my grandpa and our family's decision. We hope everyone can understand our decision."
