It is Friday. Our country’s traditional news media wonders what to do now that the bigger, more robust infrastructure bill—the one that might actually ameliorate many of the issues they now write about with their hands in the air—has not passed. Instead, millions wonder why, after not doing anything to change the trajectory of the spread of COVID-19 and nuking the benefits for families in need of financial help during these difficult times, we can’t just return to normal.
To that end, disgraced former president Donald Trump probably broke the law again, stealing confidential documents upon leaving office, and The New York Times’ White House correspondent Maggie Haberman (and probably other journalists) knew Trump was potentially trying to flush documents down the White House toilets when he was in office—and sat on that story to sell books at a later date. Why do so many people mistrust the traditional media these days? A conundrum. In Trump’s wake, there continue to be arrests of MAGA insurrectionists for their part in the Jan. 6 coup d’etat attempt Trump initiated—you can read about it in my upcoming book, I’m A Craven Opportunist: Give Me Money.
The fallout from the Jan. 6 insurrection continues to plague the Republican Party, but that isn’t going to stop Republican legislators from taking away the rights of women everywhere, while the GOP continues to field candidates who believe the best campaign is to release ads that literally threaten shooting the other candidate with a gun. This is their 21st-century answer to having popular policy solutions.
