Just when you think Rudy Giuliani can’t embarrass himself further, he digs down to a new and worse all-time low. Giuliani reportedly unmasked himself as a participant on Fox’s popular show The Masked Singer, in which contenders perform in full costume until they are eliminated, Deadline reported Wednesday. Apparently, the former New York mayor and attorney to Donald Trump was taping an episode expected to air next month. For season seven, filming now, the theme is “The Good, The Bad, and The Cuddly”—a fitting name, given Giuliani’s appearance on the show.
But Giuliani’s unmasking isn’t the only news to make headlines. Once he was revealed as a contestant, Robin Thicke and Ken Jeong allegedly walked off the stage in protest. According to the Deadline, the pair eventually returned to rejoin judges Jenny McCarthy and Nicole Scherzinger to continue the taping. Scherzinger and McCarthy seemed unbothered by Giuliani’s presence and remained on stage and “bantered” with the controversial Republican, the outlet reported.
The unmasking sparked criticism from not only judges but also those who heard the news, given Giuliani’s reputation for encouraging the Jan. 6 attempted Capitol coup. Not to mention, he was suspended from practicing law in New York by an appellate court in June 2021 that said he made "demonstrably false and misleading statements" in the 2020 election. He is also currently the subject of a $1.3 billion defamation lawsuit filed by Dominion Voting Systems due to the same repeated and false claims that the 2020 election was “stolen.”
Many on social media have questioned whether the “spoiler” was revealed to generate hate views for the show.
It seems as though Giuliani’s attempt at fixing his image was a huge fail. I mean, it’s going to be hard for him to recover from the recent news of him selling signed 9/11 T-shirts for $911.
“Rudy Giuliani will personally autograph the 9/11 T-shirt” and a “portion of proceeds go to the WABC Radio Foundation, a 501c3 charity,” the website of WABC Radio said.
Fox has failed to comment. No other details of the season have been shared, as representatives told Variety that the production refuses to acknowledge leaks, maintaining the series’ policy against confirming “spoilers.”
This isn’t the first time that The Masked Singer has faced controversy and backlash for one of its reveals. In March 2020, Republican politician Sarah Palin, former governor of Alaska, was unveiled as “The Bear.”
“This might be the most shocked I’ve ever been on this show,” host Nick Cannon said at the time, during season three.
Not that I watch the show, but seeing the theme, I do wonder what costume Guiliani wore. I guess I’ll have to wait to find out.
What costume do you think Giuliani wore?
