Just as President Joe Biden has reportedly asked GOP Senate candidates Herschel Walker and Mehmet Oz to resign their posts on the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness & Nutrition, Biden has announced his intent to appoint their replacements.
Both Walker and Oz were appointed by failed President Donald Trump in 2018. Just before losing office in 2020, Trump reappointed them both to two additional terms. According to CNN, the Biden administration doesn’t allow for council positions to be held by federal candidates per the Hatch Act, a federal law passed in 1939. Walker is running in Georgia, while Oz is running in Pennsylvania.

Oz went to Twitter with a video showing the letter from Biden asking for his resignation. Oz bellyached about being “sad” that the president would “politize [sic] such an important issue like health.” He went on offer the suggestion that the doctor who should be asked to resign is Dr. Anthony Fauci “for a multitude of reasons.” He ended by saying he would not resign and if Biden wants him out, he’ll have to fire him.
The White House released a statement yesterday with a list of intended nominees for roles on a variety of committees and councils. The top name on the list is José Andrés as the co-chair of the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness & Nutrition, along with Elena Delle Donne as the other co-chair.
Andrés is an award-winning chef recognized for his innovative culinary prowess, his global humanitarian efforts, and his epic battles with Trump. Three weeks ago, Andrés’ nonprofit, World Central Kitchen (WCK), headed to Poland, Romania, and Moldova to feed refugees fleeing the Russian invasion.
”With boots on the ground, we will learn more about what and how we will help,” Andrés said on Twitter, responding to a user who asked how they can make a donation specifically aiding Ukrainian refugee efforts. “But if we are needed, we will be there,” he continued.
Per the White House’s statement, WCK was founded in 2010 and has since served “over 3.6 million meals to the people of Puerto Rico following Hurricane Maria” and “activated on six continents.”
Andrés additionally currently serves as Co-chair of the Bipartisan Policy Center’s Food and Nutrition Security Task Force.

The Elena Delle Donne Foundation is dedicated to raising awareness of Lyme disease research, programs for people with special needs, and the health and wellness of animals.
