As most of you know, Russia and Ukraine agreed to a ceasefire in Mariupol, in southeastern Ukraine—but Russia is accused of blatantly disregarding the ceasefire.
What most of you don’t know is that there is hard evidence Russia had no intention of honoring the ceasefire. Mariupol city officials discovered that the Russians were scattering improvised explosive devices all around the city that looked like children’s toys.
Hromadske International, the English arm of the Ukrainian news channel Hromadske, highlighted this on Saturday.
There is only one way to describe this—pure barbarism.
When I saw this roll across my Twitter feed, I immediately thought about how so many fundies love Putin because Russia is arguably the most homophobic country in the developed world. It was all I could do to keep from screaming out loud, “This is your hero!” But I had to content myself with screaming it on Twitter.
It also made me sick at heart for the Russian people, large numbers of whom oppose this criminal invasion. Odds are a lot of them are thinking, “Not in our name, never in our name.” It only increases my hope that they can throw off the chains of Putin’s tyranny.
