With the leaked news that the Supreme Court has the votes to erase federal abortion rights, allowing states to push forward whatever new bans they might desire, Republican states are wasting no time in writing up even more extreme legislation. In Louisiana, that means a new bill criminalizing abortion and charging women who obtain abortions with murder. Republican senators continue the tradition of lying flat-out about their own declared policy stances. The Biden administration, in the meantime, is reportedly "caught off guard" by Roe's end and not sure what to do now that four Republican Supreme Court nominees who all claimed Roe to be "settled law" in their testimony to the Senate immediately unsettled it after gaining the last vote necessary to do so.
In other news, yet another audiotape of House minority snake-wrangler Kevin McCarthy again confirms that he knew Trump had attempted sedition on Jan. 6, knew he was the reason Congress had come under attack, and knew Trump was unfit for office. McCarthy would go on to defend Trump and back the sedition effort rather than risk his own political ambitions, even stripping Rep. Liz Cheney of her own leadership position when Cheney said aloud precisely what he had been saying in secret. Kevin McCarthy didn't have to back those who attempted to overthrow the United States government rather than abide Trump's loss—but he did, and the word for that is "coconspirator."
