It was a day of stunning developments in the House select committee hearings on the Jan. 6 coup attempt. A released email revealed that Trump lawyer John Eastman requested a presidential pardon after helping to spearhead the plan that would have had Vice President Mike Pence unilaterally throw out the electoral votes of several Biden-won states—a plan that witnesses told the committee was clearly criminal. New footage reveals that violent insurrectionists inside the Capitol came within 40 feet of Mike Pence—a perilously close margin that would likely have resulted in Pence's capture or death.
The committee is now also indicating that it will invite Ginni Thomas, spouse of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, to testify. Gathered evidence suggests that Ginni Thomas was involved both with Eastman's plot to introduce fraudulent "electors" in multiple states and with encouraging those false electors in their actions; there is also rampant speculation that Thomas was the Supreme Court link that leaked to Eastman alleged internal debate over the White House's election theories.
There are still many questions that need answers, but there's no remaining doubt that the Trump team truly was engaging in a criminal attempt to topple the nation's elected government. Here's some of what you may have missed:
