This past Monday, a child abuse doctor in Ohio had a 10-year old rape victim in her office. She is six weeks and three days pregnant. She was obviously terrified, and instead of helping her, Ohio legislators turned on her. As soon as SCOTUS overturned Roe v. Wade, Ohio outlawed all abortion after six weeks. The child discovered she was pregnant three days too late. There was no longer any access to an abortion clinic in the state, and there were no exceptions made for child rape. Even if there was a doctor who would take pity on this horrible situation, the doctor would be taking an extreme risk of prosecution—along with possibly the child.
The child abuse doctor called a colleague in Indiana and begged to take her in. For now, abortion is legal in Indiana, so the gynecologist agreed and the girl was sent to Indiana. This won’t be an option soon. The state of Indiana, unfortunately, is convening a special session in three weeks to discuss banning the procedure. Most people expect it to pass quickly in their Republican legislature.
I don’t know how she got to Indiana, but people who drive rape victims across state lines will soon be taking a risk as well. Ohio is set to pass legislation that creates a crime for anyone assisting those trying to get an abortion. It’s sponsored by one of the worst people in politics, Rep. Jean Schmidt, who’s been nicknamed “Mean Jean” by Ohioans. Schmidt, a Cincinnati Republican legislator, said there should be no exceptions for rape or incest—and even disgustingly said there is “opportunity” to be had with a pregnancy that is conceived in rape. Just in case you weren’t angry enough, she also said she is open to banning condoms and birth control while the legislature is in session figuring out ways to make their citizens suffer.
I’m livid as hell. A 10-year old being forced to bear child is so incredibly dangerous, and equally cruel. I was serious that blue states should ban abortions for GOP lawmakers' wives and mistresses. They have no trouble with abortion when it’s for them. If they are going to deny abortions for child rape, they damn sure shouldn’t be allowed to seek them either.
As it stands, the Supreme Court has become a ruling junta made up of some of the worst people on the planet--including two sexual perverts. I can't believe this is happening, and it’s only been a few days. The nightmare is just beginning. This child will be saved, but what happens in two weeks when Indiana shuts their clinics down? What happens when states start aggressively targeting women, as they promised?
Republican lawmakers are already discussing restricting travel for women, requiring pregnancy tests to leave the state, banning telehealth sessions, and interfering with the mail to check for abortion pills. This dystopia is the Christian Fascist’s utopia.
- To all the doctors and nurses who are trying to help the victims and refuse to comply with this assault on women, thank you.
- To all the lawyers offering to take on any cases pro bono, thank you.
- To all the AGs who are refusing to prosecute women and doctors, thank you.
- To all the GOP lawmakers making this nightmare real, F** you. Seriously.
Please get involved, and stay angry. Tell everyone what is going on. Fight like hell, and make our legislators listen. Children like that poor 10-year old are counting on us to protect them.
