Move over January 6 coup and Donald the Seditionist: How about Donald Trump, traitor? Not conceptually, or rhetorically, but literally, and legally!
Earlier this week the FBI got a warrant, went into Mar a Logo, searching for top secret documents. Enter the MAGA crowd, even the regular Republicans, jumping up and down about political retribution. The violent language from all corners of Y’all Qaeda went off the charts. President Biden, Attorney General Garland, all those librul-commie-sex-deviant-man/women-dark people were persecuting their President. The rhetoric from the Fox News talking heads was demanding the D.O.J. release that warrant.
Then, today, the Attorney General announced they are going to do just that (assuming that the Trump people don’t protest). Come to find out this evening (via WAPO) that the documents were not just top secret. They were nuclear documents. Nuclear documents are at the super top of the “top secret” classification structure.
His lawyers are actually at the point where they are claiming that these were declassified by The Donald, but nobody wrote it down.
So, let me get this straight. This is pure, national (or global, actually) security stuff. And Donald accidentally took them? He declassified them and didn’t tell anybody? He didn’t understand what nuclear information is?
If you think about it, there are really only a few choices for why you would really walk out of the Oval Office with intel like this: You either want to sell it, or somebody has you in a position where you need to obtain it for them.
Yes, lots of countries would love to get their hands on this intel. I suspect even some of our friends we don’t share it with (depending on specifics) would love it. But who would really, really want this, need it, and — well — of all the malfeasant leaders in the world was potentially close enough to Orange Boy to make this happen? Xi Jinping? Maybe, but there’s no evidence of a personal relationship. The Iranians — no coziness there, especially after Trump had their head of intelligence killed. MBS? Could be, but that’s really Jarod’s guy, not Donnie’s.
No… it has to be Putin. From the election interference, to the whole “thing with Trump and the Ukraine,” to all the interesting evidence of Trump’s fascination with and desire to impress Putin for years, I’m thinking he did this for Vladimir — or because Vladimir made him.
And if that’s the case, maybe all of it; the insurrection, the attempt to send fake electors, the attempt to flip Georgia… maybe all of it involved Putin. And that means, maybe, Donald Trump — the 45th President of the United States was doing more bilking the government and the public for money. Sure, he’s a crook, a seditionist, an insurrectionist. But this would bring it all to a whole new level: This would make Donnie guilty of espionage against the government he ran. It would make him a traitor.
And the trouble, and perhaps even the top secret information that Putin was to receive? Maybe that was the end goal after all, or maybe it was just where Putin evolved the relationship — but looking at these different pieces and parts of Donald’s corruption (and the GOP’s by extension) and his history in public life, and perhaps it really was about that “Trump thing with Trump and Russia,” after all.
