By now you may have heard that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) served a warrant earlier this week to search and seize quite a few things from Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago property. You may have also heard that a lot of the things that were seized during the search of Mar-a-Lago reportedly belong to you and me and not to Donald Trump.
The Washington Post reported late Thursday that sources close to the FBI’s investigation say some of the documents seized from Trump’s possession were nuclear secrets. As in classified nuclear documents that should not be sitting in any retired person’s home.
The revelation is just another example of how abjectly bankrupt, both morally and intellectually, the conservative fascist party called the Republicans are these days. There used to be a running social media joke about any ridiculous thing Donald Trump did. There was a tweet by Trump himself railing against the very thing he was now doing. It is funny because of how ridiculous it is, but it was never simply a unique hypocrisy practiced by Donald Trump. It turns out that there’s a whole right-wing media sphere and Grand Old Party of operatives, all of whom are so full of BS you could fertilize the Sahara with them.
But this clip of Dana Perino from earlier Thursday takes the cake.
In 2020, the former George W. Bush White House press secretary—along with some of the Fox News brain trust—tried to tack away from Donald Trump and return to the good old neocon days that brought us unwinnable wars in the Middle East. But as the conservative movement has moved further and further into fascism, Perino has done what she’s always done: Follow the money.
The new talking point on the right the last few days has been that the FBI going after suspected criminals by using our legal system to have a judge sign a warrant based on evidence of wrongdoing is somehow beyond the pale. After the ludicrous nature of that claim was pointed out to them, some of the more crafty sycophants have pivoted to the idea that Trump, a former president (twice impeached), should have been allowed to flush secrets down a toilet before experiencing the indignity of a federal law enforcement “raid.”
During Fox News’ The Five, the show where people like Jeannine Pirro and Greg Gutfeld bleat like demon sheep for about an hour every day, Perino tried to play her part of logician, wondering aloud, “I don’t understand how a document can be this critical.” She then acknowledged failed humorist Gutfield’s hack joke about a picture of Putin and Trump “making out” before offering up a suggestion of what the most critical documents might be in order to lead to a judge believing that law enforcement needed to get into a place and secure those documents tout suite.
“Short of the nuclear codes being written on these documents, locked behind closed doors, I don’t understand how a document could warrant this kind of … warrant.” Clever!
Thank you, Dana.
But Dana wasn’t the only right-wing-funded misinformation machine “Republican strategist” promoting this goal post. Here’s proof that moral vampires live among us: former Michelle Bachmann spokesperson Alice Stewart.
Thank you.
I’m sure there are a lot of people who would like to buy them.
