Nancy Pelosi announced she would visit Taiwan to support its status as a free democratic country. The Chinese oligarchy immediately jumped up, pounded it's collective chest and howled dire threats of “serious consequences” if she conducted the visit.
She ignored the hisses and snarls of the Chinese oligarchy, carried out the visit in defiance of the attempted intimidation committed by the Chinese slave military, supported Taiwan as a democratic state, and then refused to apologize for 'offending' the hyper authoritarian tyrants of Beijing. In doing so she showed she has more backbone, more guts and more of a couple other things than big bad wrassler John Cena, who after referring to Taiwan as a country immediately bowed before the slave owners and murderers running China to grovel out an apology in their language.
China is in many ways the most horrific, oppressive, authoritarian, tyrannical regime on earth. The tiniest hint of free speech, dissent, individualism, independent thought, etc is instantly crushed under overwhelming force. China keeps millions of its people in live-in factories where the conditions are so horrible that the dormitories have suicide netting to keep state labor units (Known as 'people' in other countries) from leaping to their deaths to escape. As an alternative, they have open and honest slave labor camps known as 'prisons' where conditions are even worse. Anyone even mentioning a labor union or workers rights can be sent to one instantly.
China has developed the practice of “identity genocide” (My term) that is based on destroying any possible sense of identity a person might have beyond “Silent obedient submissive law obeying Chinese citizen #XXXXXXXXXXXX”. Thus any religion is forbidden as the Chinese dictatorship can't allow the people to believe in anything more powerful that it. Any national or ethnic sense of identity is hunted down and crushed, any philosophy is persecuted by bloody force and even any celebrity who becomes 'too popular' can find themselves forced to 'retire', often giving much of their money to the government for the privilege of not being simply 'disappeared'.
A popular and profitable way of dealing with even minor dissent is to 'execute' (murder) the dissidents and sell their organs on the transplant market. (China is actually not a communist country, it is a hyper capitalistic one where even human lives and organs are commodities for the wealthy to monetize.)
I'm proud to be a democratic voter when I see a democrat leader spit in the face of such a regime. As to China's dark mutterings about 'dire consequences”, yawn. The big bad Russian military has been exposed as a paper bear, rendered almost comically impotent by decades of graft and corruption from being ran by kleptocratic oligarchs. China runs under a similar system and thus their military is likely to be a paper dragon. (Note: America and China have both just adopted new assault rifles for their militaries. The American one is a longer ranged, more powerful and accurate one meant to engage top line military forces equipped with modern body armor. The Chinese one is smaller, weaker, shorter ranged and clearly not meant to engage a modern military opponent, but is ideal for massacring unarmed and unarmored civilians.)
As to nuclear weapons, the Oligarchs in china know if it comes to that they will die along with the slaves and peasants, so it won't come to that.
So what if we do have a big split with China? Yes it will hurt us, but the government could order an emergency industrialization drive, like in WW2 where industry was forced to support the war effort. New factories could be built rapidly in the 'rust belt”, a new labor force could be trained as they were being built and we could have a domestic electronic industry in a few years. Our great generation suffered a few years of inconvenience to win WW2, we can do the same to free ourselves from dependency of Chinese electronic. (Psst! Hey, I've had the same budget smartphone for about a year now, you can live without upgrading yours every 6 months. Get a case and lanyard for it to keep from dropping it and it can last a couple years.)
We can replace China as makers of our electronics with some time and effort . How can they replace us as their market? Maybe it's time for a showdown with China. They brag about not doing research as they just steal everyone else's inventions and advances, maybe its time to stop buying our tech from their slave labor factories and feeding their Oligarch economy .
Not to mention rebuilding our working class.
