Trump holdover Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, who personally helped harm the 2020 election and continues to attack the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) from within for his own personal monetary gain, still holds his position for some inexplicable reason. DeJoy has multiple conflicts of interest and has engaged in all-around shady crap.

Remember those free COVID-19 tests distributed by the Postal Service? DeJoy owns stock in one of the companies that creates the kits, and he hasn’t divested the stock despite the conflict of interest. He’s also under FBI investigation for questionable campaign finance activity. Additionally, there are allegations of corruption and conflict of interest over investments DeJoy and his family hold in 14 companies that have done business with the Postal Service. And if he’s not doing things to directly benefit himself, he’s just making things harder for everyone else, like purposely slowing down the delivery of mail and hiking up postage prices.

This has been a fight at our doorstep for years. But so long as DeJoy is still there, we’ll fight to get him removed and we won’t stop until he’s sent packing.

Ron Bloom, the chair of the Board of Governors, was DeJoy’s biggest advocate and President Joe Biden did not nominate him for a new term. Which brings us here: Biden currently has the opportunity to nominate two USPS Board of Governors members who are willing and able to finally fire DeJoy. We’re here to flood Biden’s office with letters until he does just that.

Only the USPS board can fire DeJoy, and that’s exactly what they should do after his numerous failings, conflicts of interest, and destructive leadership. We need to save one of our most beloved and necessary institutions that effects everything from people’s ability to receive checks and prescriptions to mail-in voting.

There are two vacancies open on the Postal Board as of Dec. 8, 2022, and Biden now has the opportunity to appoint board members who will stand up to DeJoy’s destructive leadership and advocate strongly for the expansion of USPS services.

Biden must make sure the next two nominations to the Board of Governors are up to the task of firing DeJoy and understand that the USPS has always been, and should remain, a cherished public service.
