The list of lies told by newly sworn-in Rep. George Santos (aka Anthony Devolder) continues to grow. Every new revelation seems to expose the newest shining star of the Republican Party as somehow more inscrutable than a pathological liar. The fact that not a single one of the litany of lies Santos spun set off enough warning sounds to get the leadership of the Republican Party to distance themselves from him says a lot about the true, craven sociopathy going on in the conservative movement.
Each lie Santos has been busted for telling has been worse than the last, and now even the old lies are turning out to be worse than once thought. A few weeks ago it was revealed that George Santos had clearly claimed his mother died in the attack on the World Trade Center buildings on Sept. 11, 2001. Besides being a grotesque lie clearly told to garner unearned sympathy, Santos retreated from the lie, saying she “was in her office in the South Tower on Sept. 11, 2001, when the horrific events of that day unfolded.” He added that she died a few years later from cancer.
It was then reported that she died in 2016. That was the second lie on top of that initial lie. Well, now reports are coming out that that this Sept. 11, stolen valor lie is a three-level whopper.

According to The Washington Post, Fatima Devolder (Santos’ mother) “applied for a visa to enter the United States from her home country of Brazil in February 2003, and on that application she stated that she had not been in the United States since 1999.”
This would mean that not only was George Santos/Anthony Devolder’s mother not in the South Tower on Sept. 11, 2001, she was not even in New York City on that day. In fact, she was no less than 3,100 miles away from New York City on 9/11/01.
On Wednesday, Republican Rep. Roger Williams of Texas stood strong when asked about his fellow Republican congressman, telling CNN, “I don’t condone what he said, what he’s done. I don’t think anybody does. But that’s not my role. He was elected.” Scruples: meet the black hole at the end of time.
