According to the NYTImes, the Israeli government apparently had the full plan for the Oct 7 attack in their possession a year ago.
www.nytimes.com/…
According to the report by Ronen Bergman and Adam Goldman, the 40 page document outlined the planned attacks in extreme detail, as well as provided specific intelligence gathered by Hamas on Israeli military positions and infrastructure identified as potential targets.
In a disturbing parallel to the warnings received by the Bush administration prior to the 9/11 attacks, the document was dismissed at the time by members of Israeli Intelligence as “merely aspirational.”
As FishOutofWater notes in the comments, the authors hedge on whether Netanyahu actually saw this document or not:
The document circulated widely among Israeli military and intelligence leaders, but experts determined that an attack of that scale and ambition was beyond Hamas’s capabilities, according to documents and officials. It is unclear whether Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu or other top political leaders saw the document, as well.
Nonetheless, even if he did not see the documents directly, this represents a staggering intelligence failure under Bibi’s watch, and I don’t see how Netanyahu’s government can possibly survive this, but stranger things have happened….
