Jewish Space Lasers redux
The Republican House is trying to pass a bill giving supplemental aid to Israel for the rest of fiscal 2024. Rep. MT Greene (R-GA) has problems with it. And has offered an amendment, the sole purpose of which is to throw sand into the gears. Here is the wording:
“By the funds made available by this Act, such sums as necessary shall be used for the development of space laser technology on the southwest border.”
“Space laser technology”? Lasers paid for with money earmarked for Israel? Jewish Space Lasers? Is Greene capable of self-deprecation? Is her thinking nuanced enough for a self-referential dig at her past conspiratorial excesses? Or is she so dumb she has forgotten — or thinks America has forgotten — her past breaks with reality?
Fair-minded Americans appreciate their political opposites admitting their faults. Liberals widely reviled Bush Jr. Yet he won some plaudits for his self-deprecating turns during White House Correspondents dinners. Reagan deflected from his sociopathic lack of empathy with jokes at his own expense.
But those two and others, while not celebrated for their IQs, had sufficient nous to appreciate the value of humor. Greene has not shown she has the intelligence to understand a joke — let alone tell one.
So, I will assume she is blind to irony. And cannot appreciate her own allusion.
The original Jewish Space Laser conspiracy theory
In 2021, Rep. MT Greene (R-GA) arrived in Washington under a conspiracy cloud. She wallowed in the lunatic fringe’s usual insanity. And contributed her musings to the blog American Truth Seekers. This ironically named site, now defunct, was dedicated to promoting lies — the weirder, the better.
Greene believed in Hillary’s pedophile ring, aka Pizzagate; the execution of Nancy Pelosi for treason; that Charlottesville’s white nationalist rally was an ‘inside job’; that the Parkland school shooting was a ‘false-flag’ operation; and that the ‘deep state’ was trying to politically emasculate Trump.
She showed the depths of her delusion by promoting a theory that nefarious international forces started a 2018 forest fire in California with space-age technology “because there are too many coincidences to ignore.” She added, “oddly there are all these people who have said they saw what looked like lasers or blue beams of light causing the fires.” She speculated that Roger Kimmel, a vice chairman at “Rothschild Inc. international investment banking firm,” was somehow involved. And suggested the fire was caused by a beam from “space solar generators.”
For people not current on conservative dog whistles, “international bankers” is a synonym for a “Jewish plot to establish a new world order.”
Greene’s infamous and science-challenged antisemitism became known as the Jewish Space Laser conspiracy theory. Greene is too dumb to be aware that her amendment would remind people of it. Bless her heart.
