Good morning, early birds.

I was awoken by my kitty Hector again this morning. When I opened my eyes his head was a mere inches above my face. At least he was gracious enough to allow me to sleep until 2:15 AM today. Hector was so heel bent on getting me up because his dish of prescription food was empty. I filled it last night with more than enough food to last until morning. I know Hector has had help eating it.
My cats have been getting along rather well lately. Early last week I noticed Hector had a good sized scratch right next to his nose. Though I didn’t see it I am certain my big black cat Rogan did that. Hector the Alpha Kitty is good a starting fights but the 20 pound Rogan has the size to end them. I’ve seen that happen more than once. Hector gave Rogan a good old bop in the face this morning. Rogan cowered but didn’t do anything else. I almost think Rogan has been polishing off Hector’s food overnight. Cats are intelligent enough to know what’s theirs and to be possessive of it.
Rogan’s main dish of regular food is in this computer room with my shy kitty Minty. I have to keep the door to this spare bedroom closed at night. Otherwise Hector will come in and gobble it all up. (That, and Minty might come hide under my king sized bed and I’d never see her again.) Regular cat food is terrible for Hector’s bad kidneys. His expensive prescription food is what’s keeping him alive. It must be working. Hector is nearly nineteen years old and still accounts for 9/10ths of the trouble my cats cause.
Actually, my vet says the prescription renal food is good for all aging cats. Kidney failure is a major killer of cats, even in the wild. Now that everybody but Minty is accustomed to the taste of it I wouldn’t mind if they all ate nothing but renal food. Sadly, it’s just too expensive for me to exclusively feed it to the rest of my cats. That, and my 15 year old kitty Olivia, the one who picks at her food, loves her canned Fancy Feast.
With all the weight my kitty Rogan is packing on he may have a slow thyroid. He is ten years old. That’s getting up there in age. OTOH, he might just be a little porker. I’ll talk to his vet about it when he and Minty go for their rabies boosters this June.
Sorry if I’ve been boring you with all this cat talk. It’s just what’s been on my mind this morning. On to Mark Knopfler’s phenomenal guitar work.
So what’s on your mind?
