Today is a day of reflection for me, as it marks one year since our beloved Great Pyrenees “Angel” crossed over to Rainbow Bridge. She lived a long life- 14 years to be exact, but to me that’s not even close to being long enough.
Angel of course, like myself and my husband, was a staunch Democrat. She believed that not only all people, but all dogs too, should be treated equally with dignity and respect regardless of color.
She believed in loving all; even showing love and affection for certain cats in the neighborhood.
She was always so full of life and never tired of all the attention that the neighborhood folks would bestow on her during our daily walks.
As I write this in our home office, I’m glancing with fond memories at the above picture, which is framed on my desk. It seems to always bring a smile to my face. That picture was our family Christmas card back in 2022. Angel was definitely the “scene stealer” in that one!
Now in 2024, I’ve chosen to seek office by running for a seat in the Florida State House of Representatives, District 68, which contains certain parts of the I-4 corridor. So far I’m the only Democrat in the race. Of course the Republican incumbent currently in office is seeking re-election.
I can take solace in knowing that if elected, I’ll be fortunate enough to be in such a position that I can carry on the “Angel Legacy” of showing love and equality to all. I plan to do this by helping to shape and enact state laws that repel the hate and fear mongering our GOP legislators are trying so desperately to instill among their Florida constituents. To put it quite simply- hate has no home here!
I think Angel would be proud…..
