The Daily Bucket is a nature refuge. We amicably discuss animals, weather, climate, soil, plants, waters and note life’s patterns.
We invite you to note what you are seeing around you in your own part of the world, and to share your observations in the comments below.
Each note is a record that we can refer to in the future as we try to understand the phenological patterns that are quietly unwinding around us. To have the Daily Bucket in your Activity Stream, visit Backyard Science’s profile page and click on follow.

There are four species of Painted turtle in the United States. All of them belong to the Chrysemys genus but only one is a distinct species. The remainder belong to picta species with a sub-species clarification. The following video (a bit long at 13.45 minutes) offers good information on identification of each.

I saw lots of things while I visited Noxabee Wildlife Refuge (as expected) but not one of the target items I went to see. However, the abundance of creatures is worth the trip any day of the year. I hope you enjoy these things I spotted while I was there.
A better look at the Orange Bluet.
A common sight at the refuge were the water lilies.
I headed for home around 11 am because of the threat of strong storms (including tornadoes). On my way home, I passed one pond where a hundred Great Egret where having lunch. This is a breeding pond for one of the many fish farms in Noxabee County, MS.
Please show or discuss any of the sights you have seen from your part of the world.
