Um, what campaign genius suggested the Trump go to the Libertarian conference to get booed incessantly throughout his speech? Who thought this made him seem relatable or uniting or even electable? We all know how his vampire heart feeds off adulation and can’t stand criticism. So why would he do this when it flies in the face of everything we know about him? Quick answer: because he knows he’s losing. Yeah, sure it could be some campaign genius thinking hey, we got nothing else to do. Let’s just go pull some votes from people who mostly dislike us. It’s an opportunity to play outside the box, right? This guy’s campaign? That ain’t happening unless he knows he hast to start reaching for votes. That means that the campaign is beginning to get a little desperate. This is a move you only make if you’re not sure you have a strong enough base to pull you through where it counts. Now I’m not saying I have a look at the Trump campaign’s internals, but six months out this is starting to look a little shaky. They had to know that the footage of him being booed would hit the Internet. The only play is that they think they can start to pull away 15 to 30% of those attendees. What that means is that they’re acutely aware that they have to start reaching for every far off vote they can get. That means that they are equal aware that they are losing suburban votes and women’s votes and they can’t make up the deficit. Believe me, it would take a lot to convince that guy that he should go out in front of an audience he knows is going to boo him. There must’ve been some hard conversations where he was told that if he doesn’t suck it up and try to appeal to those nut jobs, he doesn’t have a chance of winning. All I’m saying is this doesn’t look like a particularly confident campaign.
