Native Americans Speak Out!
As a Native American woman, I grew up in Oklahoma understanding that the term liberal applied to people like President Clinton, and his party. Under Clinton, Choctaw people in my community saw a remarkable increase on health services provided to us, and a welcomed rise in the quality of this care. Under this "liberal" leadership, I was able to attend an affordable university in Oklahoma, and graduate just as the liberal era came to an end (2000). I am now a graduate student at the Columbia University Mailman school of Public Health, and what I see in my community and in the country makes my heart heavy, and long for the days where quality health care helped raise the status (although briefly) of the great Choctaw Nation.
Under the so called "Conservative" leadership, health care has become more expensive and difficult to access. You see, Carl Rove doesn't bother to mention that his conservative leadership has failed the Native people, and in fact robbed the Mississippi band of Choctaws of millions (thanks Delay)!
So as Natives, the first Americans, lets join together and reclaim the dignity of the liberal movement. We believe in expanding freedom, they believe in limiting freedom! Which is better for the people of this country? Liberal Leadership is missing from this country, and Kerry and others need to be proud of this label, just look at what we have accomplished!
