Here we are with every right to be holding the high ground
in the frigging mess that we are in over the Iraq war.
However instead of using the opportunity to resolve this
situation in an acceptable way, and come out of this scoring
real points, what do we as a party do?
We as Democrats find ourselves all over the map on our policy
on the Iraq war. It appears that each high profile Democrat
with Presidential ambitions has their own idea that in some
ways will differ from others. While this may be good for a
debate within the party on who may be the best candidate for
2008, it is damn poor policy for America.
Not only is it poor policy for America, but it is allowing
the Bush Administration to hold on to a lot more support than
we should be allowing them.
While our leaders are more concerned with trying to position
themselves to be the banner carrier for the party, the war in
Iraq, continues under the misguided blind Republican leadership
with staying the course.
Since Bush and company has demonstrated that they are
incapable and since none of those speaking their own version
of how to end this war has it all figured out, it is time to get an
impartial committee formed that can figure out a plan of action
in our fighting to resolve this in the best manner for all concerned
including the country of Iraq.
Every would be spokesperson for the Democratic party should
be shutting up about their preferred way of handling this debacle
and start screaming as a unified party for the formation of an
over sight committee for conducting this war. We can if we have
the foresight and the ultimate interest of our nation as a primary
goal, win this issue and be in much better shape going into the
next rounds of elections.
That committee should consist of experienced Generals from both
sides of the political spectrum with no political agendas. The
whole point is that now with the clusterfuck That Bush, Cheney, and
Rummy have created, this committee should be absolutely non
political and charged with one goal only.
That goal should be to get the situation in Iraq to the point that
it can be prudent to bring our men and women home. We put these people
of Iraq in the mess that they are in today and there are no easy or
sound byte answers to the damn mess. We can not and we must not dump
that nation onto the mercy of the thugs that are fighting for their
own control and power over the running of their country. They have
already shown their willingness to kill their own innocent civilians
to get their way.
This is a time when the Democratic and yes the Republican parties
must come together and for once at least put the welfare of not only
our nation and our service personal, but also Iraq first and foremost
ahead of their party's agendas.
Our political parties have both drifted too far away from what they were
set up to do. They were set up to represent the people and the nation
first and above all other causes.
It is damn time that they do it, and that means both parties.
Americans deserve more and the Citizens deserve a Congress and a
Senate that works for the combined good of our country and it's
citizens.
