In this trying time of endeavoring to bring the country together (despite forces wanting to tear us apart from the Christian Right), I try to be reconciliatory and wanting to listen to the other side. All this is done as an effort to try to patch up this massive split as well as figuring out what caused it. And then I read about this
buyer's remorse that is starting to rear its ugly head, less than 2 months after the majority of the country voted to keep a
torturer in the White House.
So, in light of all that, despite the fact that this is the season of giving and love and peace, in this rare moment I'm experiencing, I believe that I speak for many at this blog and elsewhere when I say:
Bite me!
That's right, bite me! All of you who just now are starting to see what we have been trying our damnedest to show you for months on end, the fact that the war in Iraq was a complete lie to start off and is going very badly for us, the fact that our dollar is about to plummet to astronomical depths the likes of which this generation of Americans has not seen, the fact that our Social Security, along with Medicare and Medicaid, as well as general public education, are about to get the ultimate shaft by this Administration and the band of Religious Right nutjobs that operate it, bite me!
I don't want to hear about how bad you may feel. In some ways, you may have done us a favor. By ensuring Bush's reelection as well as control of the Congress to the GOP, you have made it crystal clear who will be to blame for the hardships that will be felt upon everyone over the next decade. It sure as hell won't be the liberal media the right wing owns, or the Supreme Court they are about to stack in their favor. Oh no, it will be the Republican Party and all who voted for them, that includes you, yes you. Whatever happens in this country, you will be part of the blame, and in the words of that Republican wrestler Ric Flair, "Whether you like it or you don't like it, learn to love it."
But if you want to gripe about how bad you feel and how hard life is now for you, go on! Tell how hard it is to the child who lost his father in Iraq that was recently quoted as saying, "I don't want to be father because fathers die." Tell it to the families who will find an empty spot beside the Christmas tree and dinner table this holiday season that was once filled with a bright, shining soul that gave his life for a country that seems dead-set on removing many of the freedoms for which they were sent over to die.
Tell it to the sick who are deep in debt because of health costs that are wiping out their bank accounts, and are forced to work two jobs just to pay the rent - and for some that doesn't even do it. Tell it to the young man or woman who graduated high school near the top of his/her class but can't go to college because the costs are too hard to handle, because you didn't want to give up your measling, little tax cut. Tell it to the aspiring American who just saw his dreams get outsourced to India while you were more concerned about 'moral values'. As pessimist at The Left Coaster says, maybe your moral values will give you the warmth your house won't give you because you don't have the money to pay the utilities.
The bottom line is that we don't want to hear any sort of buyer's remorse from you. We don't. Give us a few more months, then we'll talk. We tried so hard to show you all year round, from the protests, the advertisements, the rallies, that this man and this party, which shames Lincoln everyday they carry the name Republican, was not fit to run this country. But you didn't listen. And now you want to gripe and moan at us, saying how you disapprove of the job Bush is doing? Bite me! We don't have time to hear your whining - we have more important things to worry about, like how we, that's right, we are going to have to clean up this mess, which we always seems to do - gee, isn't that strange?
Maybe in four-year's time you will no longer think of this election as merely a game to beat the big bad liberals. Maybe next time, if there is a next time, you won't jeopardize your future or that of your fellow man again, and really vote for what is right rather than what is popular. But for now, why moan and groan? Be happy, be joyous! Don't you know it's the season to be jolly?! You got the man you wanted on November 2nd. You made your choice, and your choice was victorious. The big bad liberals are out of power and they, along with all their great ideas that have helped make your life a little bit wealthier, healthier, and overall better, are about to get wiped out by this government. Come on, bring the confetti! You won!
Oh.....you're not so sure anymore you voted for the right guy? Huh....
Bite me.
