Bush stands at 34 %, in the latest CBS poll. I think it just may be the tip of the iceberg. His hard-core followers have been banged on hard by the reality of his criminally negligent incompetence and corruption, for over a good straight year now - ever after the loud wake-up call that was Katrina.
I think they're going to crack, and when they do, they will turn on him with bile and rage. And when they do, Bush's approval rating will make Nixon look like FDR in wartime.
More below the fold.
So, here's my proposal: let's start a betting pool, and each propose to throw in $5, to be donated to Howard Dean's Democracy bonds, or some similar worthy anti-Bush charity in about 1 year's time. Honor system. The person who's closest to Bush's low in a major CBS or CNN poll, on or about March 1 2007, gets a book bought for them from their Amazon wish list, or some similar gift. Sound good? (I'm also open to suggestions.)
And I'll start with: 22%.I predict that, by one year from this date, Bush will bottom out with a historic low of 22% of Americans still thinking he's a good president. I believe that's 2% higher than the percentage of Americans who think the Earth is flat.
Any takers?
