Sensenbrenner's a wingnut. There's no doubt about it. But even the Delays and Frists try to come up with spin and revisionist history to justify their anti-republicanism (small r).
Sensenbrenner, however has lately just been brazenly hostile to the democratic process. What is going through his mind?
Via fark, comes this gem:

For those too lazy to click the above, back in February, Sensenbrenner and four other reps introduced the following bill (HJR 24):
The twenty-second article of amendment to the Constitution of the United States is repealed.
(That would be the one that says a president can only serve two terms).
A couple of things strike me about this. First, it's currently in the Judiciary Comittee, which he's the chair of. There hasn't been any action on it yet, but then they've been busy with steroids talking up the USA PATRIOT act, and turning off the committee microphones. Right after I put on my tin foil hat, I wondered if he actually believes this will make it to the floor and pass out of congress, ensuring (in his mind) a permanent majority for the Republicans. In which case, it doesn't matter what he does, because there's nothing the Dems can do about it ("but if we change the constitution, we can pass all kinds of crazy laws!").
The second thing, which I got off of Lexis Nexis (so no link) is that the other four reps are:
- Hoyer (D-MD) (original sponsor)
- Berman (D-CA)
- Pallone (D-NJ)
- Sabo (D-MN)
WTF?!? Who are these guys? Why are there four democrats trying to repeal the 22nd amendement?
