You heard me right, I said Fuck Jesus.
I'll say it again - Fuck Jesus.
Hell yeah man! Fuck Jesus!
Fuck Jesus! Fuck Jesus! Fuck Jesus! Fuck Jesus! Fuck Jesus! Fuck Jesus! Fuck Jesus! Fuck Jesus! Fuck Jesus!
<pant...pant...pant>
Fuck Jesus! Fuck Jesus! Fuck Jesus! Fuck Jesus! Fuck Jesus! Fuck Jesus! Fuck Jesus! Fuck Jesus! Fuck Jesus!
Oh, that's not politically correct? Too bad - Fuck You too, then.
Ok, now that I've got that out of my system, perhaps I can make some sense now.
Me? I don't buy the "invisible man living in the sky" theory, but I'll fight to the death for the right of others to. Whether they'd do the same for my agnosticism is up to them.
What I'm referring to when I say "Fuck Jesus", is all the yammering I've seen on dailykos recently about how to "attract the religious right". I've seen suggestions from getting preachers onto "left-wing" radio, to campaigning in churches, to twisting their own gospels against them, to scaring them into submission by trying to pass silly laws, to flat out lying to people. I don't believe in an "allmighty", nor will I say I do to anyone else just to get someone's vote or try to swing them to my point of view. Nor will I cater to them. It would be dishonest of me, and it would show- just as it does when others are disingenuous about it.
What I will do, however, is at least try listen to what they have to say with an open mind, and show them respect if they've earned it - just as I would anyone else. That's the biggest problem I see here lately, the lack of respect for your fellow Americans. I swear to $DIETY the next person I see call someone else a "jesusfreak" or some shit like that, well... I don't know what I'll do, but rest assured, it won't be pretty. I grew up as "the fat kid", and I can tell you from firsthand experience, that when people are insulting and condescending to you, even subtly, they stand NO chance of earning your respect.
Want to try and win the hearts and minds of "the religious right"?
Try listening to them
Try talking with them.
Try talking TO them, not DOWN to them.
Don't try to bamboozle them. A person shouldn't say they believe something just to get someone's vote or support - that's just plain dishonest - and you know what that would make you if you did that?
A Republican.
