From a Jim Vandehei article in today's
Post:
"The bloggers and online donors represent an important resource for the party, but they are not representative of the majority you need to win elections," said Steve Elmendorf, a Democratic lobbyist who advised Kerry's 2004 presidential campaign. "The trick will be to harness their energy and their money without looking like you are a captive of the activist left."
In other words, give us your money and your time, and shut up, because we're going to ignore anything you actually have to say. Wow -- I'm so glad the Democratic establishment is being run by such a competent and talented guy.
Dude, just 'cause you think something, doesn't mean it's a good idea to say it to a reporter for a national newspaper. Do you honestly think us "wacky liberals" are going to donate our time and money to anything YOU'RE connected with for oh, the next 50 years? Are you that arrogant that you think you can say that and get away with it?
Not one dime, ladies and gentlemen, to anything connected with Steve Elmendorf. Anyone stupid enough to actually give a quote like that deserves to have every single one of his funding sources dry up and leave him parched, gasping for water, and ultimately, looking for a new job. Until guys like this get retired to the pasture they so richly deserve, we will get NOWHERE. Until it's about winning, not about job protection, we will not win. Period.
