I was just reading an article on Harry Reid at Salon:

This quote got me thinking:
When McCarran's political protégé, Alan Bible, arrived in the Senate, Carl Hayden, a longtime senator from Arizona, told him there are two kinds of senators: a workhorse who does the job and a show horse who gets the attention. Bible was a workhorse, and it paid off.

It got me thinking about the leadership discussion that have taken place here at dKos. I guess where I fall is that I think we need a War Horse, like Dean, in charge of the party. A Work Horse, like Reid, leading things in congress, and a Show Horse as our presidential candidate.
That would seem to be the right balance to me. I wonder who would make the bets show horse candidate next time. Obama certainly will fill the bill eventually. Kerry looked the part, but I'm not sure.
