Well, it's been 4 days since Reagan's death and 4 days of constant media reporting of how Reagan is the father of modern conservatism (and by implication that Bush is his natural heir) and Rasmussen, the only daily tracking poll of the presidential contest, has Kerry with 46% over Bush with 44% (a gain of 1 for Kerry since Reagan's death and a loss of 1 for Bush.)
Also, there is another feature on their website today that estimates the electoral vote count if the election were held today. In their base projection, they give Kerry 227 electoral votes (172 solid, 55 lean) and Bush 177 electoral votes (147 solid, 30 lean) with 134 votes too close to call (polling shows less than 5% between the candidates.) The toss-up states are Florida, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Virginia.) If, however, they assign the toss-up states' electoral votes to the candidate who is ahead, regardless of the margin, Bush would take the lead 261-234. We can argue the merits of Rasmussen, but thought it was interesting to note.
