I was wondering - aside from things like disaster relief, what has Bush and his Republican cronies done for the average American? I'm not saying there isn't ANYTHING - just that I'm not aware of anything. They do so many things to benefit the privileged few, and then they come back to us and "spin" it to make it look like it was done for us.
Medicare reform, which was all about benefitting drug companies & health insurance companies, was spun as "helping the poor & elderly". Bankruptcy reform, benefitting credit card and counseling companies, was spun as "helping to keep interest rates low". Social Security reform, as Bush envisioned it, would have benefitted Wall St. & investment counselors. Bush's huge tax breaks for the rich benefitted only the rich (that's the nature of trickle-down economics - we learned that the first time it was tried). The Bushies have been hard at work protecting gun companies from being sued, opening govt. land to strip mining and logging, finding ways for power companies to raise their pollution levels, paying companies to move their factories overseas, and making sure EVERY child (except those in private religious schools) is left behind. Billions of dollars are currently being cut from social programs so that the richest people in the U.S. can keep tax breaks that come to more than most people even earn in a year. (Think of that when you're trying to pay your heating bills this winter.) And how can we forget the unnecessary war that was all about furthering the Republican agenda, and actually made us LESS safe from terrorism?
So, where's all the stuff to help average people? Did all that happen on a day when I didn't read the newspaper? I mean, c'mon, even a blind squirrel finds an acorn once in awhile! There must be SOMETHING that actually helped the average American? Or has this administration been so totally focused on raping the U.S. for whatever spoils can be doled out to major campaign contributors to the Republican party that the average American has simply been excluded from concern?
