Florida Governor's Race - The hits just keep coming.

A new poll by the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute shows for the first time Democrat Jim Davis with a lead over either republican candidate in the Florida governor's race.

An article in today's Tampa Tribune had this to say about it.

The poll, by Quinnipiac University Polling Institute, shows Davis leading by 40 percent to 39 percent when matched against Crist and 41 percent to 38 percent against Gallagher.

Yeah I know it's a statistical dead heat but here's the reason the trib gives for the rise in poll numbers for Davis:

"I think it shows a rising anti-Republican, anti-Bush sentiment in Florida since this summer," said pollster Clay Richards, of Quinnipiac. "The war, the economy, gas prices, all those things are ganging up on the Republicans."

Bush's approval rating in this poll, he noted, was 37 percent -- about the same as in other states and the lowest since the respected polling organization began doing Florida polls three years ago.

Of course the republicans are blowing it off saying it's too early to gauge voter intent, but in a swing state that usually swings red this has to be troubling to the pubbies.  And in a state that has given us JEB, Katherine Harris, and other far right extremists, this gives me hope that we are on the verge of retaking the Florida house and senate.  Also, from what I'm hearing this is giving some democrats who were hesitant about running for office but were resistant because of the republicans power, some new courage.
