This is about election reform. I think we need to have a long discussion over various methods over reforming the system. Way less than 50% of elegible adults turned out last time, so we need change.
I have one good idea: we should keep the electoral-college, including winner takes all(for a reason I will show). However, we should re-do how electoral-votes are rewarded. Instead of awarding them based on pop./the extra 2 for senators, we should make them porportional to state turnout as to the rest of the nation.
Example:(This is all pure guesing) Lets say it was based out of 1,000 EC Votes and California had 12 million voters turnout out of 120 million nation wide
120,000,000/12,000,000
1,000/EC Votes
EC Votes:100
This would really give a reason for voters everywhere to turnout. It would still put focus on whole-states, instead of just major urban areas(think Bos-wash), while increasing turnout.
I'm not sure whether this idea has been proposed before, but here it is anyway.
