Al Gore's documentary wins special award
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- The Al Gore documentary An Inconvenient Truth will receive a rare recognition from the Humanitas Prize, which honors screenwriting that helps "liberate, enrich and unify society." An Inconvenient Truth, which chronicles Gore's quest to draw attention to global warming, will receive the organization's first Special Award in over 10 years, president Frank Desiderio announced Wednesday.
"It's a very important film," he said in a statement. "We want to shine a light on it."
The documentary's director, Davis Guggenheim, said he was "thrilled" with the recognition, adding that Humanitas "supports the achievements and sacrifices of filmmakers trying to change the world."
Since 1974, the Humanitas Prize has presented awards and grants to TV and film writers whose fictional work reflects "the positive values of life." Documentaries are occasionally recognized with Special Awards. The last such honors went to Bill Moyers and Judith Davidson Moyers in 1995 for their documentary What Can We Do About Violence.
I read this and cried. FINALLY Mr. Gore is getting the recognition along with this issue it deserves. Mr. Gore, CONGRATULATIONS to you, Davis Guggenheim, and all involved in the making of this movie. You have all done a great service for the future of our planet. My only wish and hope is that the people who see it and those who really NEED to see it do so and see that this is truly a moral issue that transcends politics and take it upon themselves to do what is right for our planet and our future.
It really isn't all that hard to do either. As Mr. Gore has stated, we have all we need to mitigate this crisis, save political will. That is why I also hope all in Congress see that this movie is making a difference and take it upon themselves regardless of Party as well to finally see that it is time to take a moral stance for an inconvenient truth that has been a convenient lie for far too long for those interests that have played an active role in bringing us to this period of consequences.
My heart is also so full because of all the pain and heartache Mr. Gore has gone through in trying to not only get this message out in the past, but all the years he has spent truly caring for the people only to see it shunned and ridiculed and used for other agendas. Again, I must say that in my heart I know that he is following the right path now, and his continued advocacy for this issue will open eyes, hearts, and influence policy in the way that it needs to be influenced. After 2000 I wrote him a letter and I told him to speak from his heart, and that to do so would never be wrong. I think many others told him this as well, and he is doing so now and it is making a difference.
You are on the threshhold of something great in regards to our future in this world , Mr. Gore, and I couldn't be happier for you nor for our planet. All who now join in this cause of fighting for our future by fighting for our sustainability as a species now have a stake in that future. We can make this world a better place for our children, and we must do so. THANK YOU again from the bottom of my heart for your great service, and may you continue to be the guiding force in inspiring people on to a brighter day.

Also, here is a link to a video where Mr. Gore and Davis Guggenheim ask each other questions about the movie sent in by others. It is interesting.
