How do these things go together?
In the last 24 hours:
- 11 Republicans met with the shrub to say their districts & the next presidency were going to be defeated by Democrats. The shrub was not trusted by the public & needed a new spokesman on the war progress. The meeting was leaked by Republicans and just in time for the nightly news.
- Cheney goes to Iraq to tell the parliament no vacation.
- Rumors: Blue Dog Democrats are going to vote with Republicans on the war spending bill
- Pentagon announces 35,000 troops to be deployed in September and they are borrowing money from the next fiscal year to pay for the Occupation.

- Votevets.org places an ad by retired generals saying Bush does not listen to the Generals & to end the war
- Release of Gonzales opening statement to the Judiciary Committee is the same as 3 weeks ago (It was on Keith Olbermann's Countdown on Wednesday, May 9, 2007)
- Preannouncement of Tony Blair's retirement
- An order for everybody in the Green Zone to wear flak jackets because of the mortar attacks
- Iraqi parliament rejected the continuing occupation of their country by the U.S.
How do these things go together?
My opinion is that the war is in meltdown. Our troops are going to have to fight their way out of Iraq if we don't get out before September. The Iraqi people want us out, and they aren't falling for the "Oil Law." The Iraqi Parliament is dragging out the oil law passage hoping the American people will decide to leave first. Cheney is pressuring the Iraqis to make him and the shrub rich.
In the meantime, back at the ranch, the Repugs have found the shrub without a babysitter, so they go to him and tell him the truth about what is going on in their districts.
In my fantasy: The Democrats are trying to determine the next best step to rein in the President and end the war which looks like disarray, but it's really sausage making. The pressure from the Pentagon and the meeting of 11 Repugs with the shrub should help the Democrats stiffen their resolve.
The moral of the story: Standing up to the bully gets results, while giving in to the bully gets you more abuse.
