I have watched mesmerized as we pondered the ultimate fate of Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, Anna Nicole's baby, etc, etc. We have the despicable Nancy Grace exploting every imaginable human tragedy, and we have the ridiculous Glen Beck haranguing us with his nonsense night after night. We have Larry King asking his non questions and if it wasn't for Keith Olbermann I would just give up totally on the news on television.
The newspapers are not any better. We were misinformed from the beginning of this war and it is only now that so many have died and Iraq is totally destroyed that we are finally getting glimpses of the truth.
I have read nothing about New Orleans in the mainstream media and I probably will not read anything until the next hurricane decimates the little that is left of what was once a vibrant city. The Bush doctrine has resulted in a displaced citizenry and a permanent destruction of the lower Nine ward.
We have an outlaw executive branch and we are told not to mention impeachment because it is not in our best interests. I guess this imperial presidency serves us well, doesn't it? I ask because our mainstream media doesn't seem to think it is their job to ask and inform so that we can decide. It just tells us what we "need" to know and to think...that is our current "democracy". We "need" to know about celebrity tarts, we "need" to know about celebrity feuds and we "need" to know about the latest human tragedy...all of this while our rights are taken away, our ports and borders remain unprotected and 46 million people go without health insurance and did I mention the war where billions of dollars are being spent while our bridges fall in disrepair.
In a nation where mainstream media is controlled by a few private entities there can be no democracy. I find it sad to see those that question the status quo and demand answers labeled radicals. I am one of those radicals and I demand answers but who is going to represent my interests? We have lost our country to the highest bidders...and I swing from anger to sadness every single day.
