Mr. Gore will not run for President.
Simply because of pundits like you believe yourself to be. You are one of the "hot air" Americans, like Maureen Dowd who were so "helpful" when Mr. Gore could have been president in 2000.
Update
Mr. Gore could have been President if it had not been for pundits trying to make his life a misery.
He will not run because the US does not deserve him.
End of story.
To the screams of outrage on this thread I would only say KMA.
Update II
I'll summarise my thoughts on the tenor of the replies below in this update rather than getting into a 101 slagging match.
It took the "Paper of Record" the New York Times nearly half a century to make a much needed apology to one of the most important visionaries and pioneers in the US, Robert H. Goddard:
Forty nine years afterwards, on July 17, 1969, the day after the launch of Apollo 11, the New York Times published a short item under the headline "A Correction," summarizing its 1920 editorial mocking Goddard, and concluding: "Further investigation and experimentation have confirmed the findings of Isaac Newton in the 17th century and it is now definitely established that a rocket can function in a vacuum as well as in an atmosphere. The Times regrets the error."
Before any interview is conducted with Al gore, it should be prefaced with an expansive apology to him. Apologies for what? Well for instance:
Gore Invented the Internet
"During my service in the United States Congress I took the initiative in creating the Internet. I took the initiative in moving forward a whole range of initiatives that have proven to be important to our country's economic growth and environmental protection, improvements in our educational system."
In response to this controversy, Internet pioneers Vint Cerf and Bob Kahn wrote a 2000-09-29 article (originally sent via email) that described Gore's contributions to the Internet since the 1970s, including his work on the Gore Bill:
As the two people who designed the basic architecture and the core protocols that make the Internet work, we would like to acknowledge VP Gore's contributions as a Congressman, Senator and as Vice President. No other elected official, to our knowledge, has made a greater contribution over a longer period of time. Last year the Vice President made a straightforward statement on his role. He said: "During my service in the United States Congress I took the initiative in creating the Internet." We don't think, as some people have argued, that Gore intended to claim he "invented" the Internet. Moreover, there is no question in our minds that while serving as Senator, Gore's initiatives had a significant and beneficial effect on the still-evolving Internet. The fact of the matter is that Gore was talking about and promoting the Internet long before most people were listening. We feel it is timely to offer our perspective. As far back as the 1970s Congressman Gore promoted the idea of high speed telecommunications as an engine for both economic growth and the improvement of our educational system. He was the first elected official to grasp the potential of computer communications to have a broader impact than just improving the conduct of science and scholarship. Though easily forgotten, now, at the time this was an unproven and controversial concept.
Without Al Gore's work on establishing the infrastructure and the concept of net neutrality (which the forces of the Bush junta are now trying to demolish) something like The Daily Kos would not exist.
Other things would be the fact that IBM made a huge mistake in 1981 when they did not patent the PC (the only hardware patent that IBM had was the keyboard interface). Also the fact that Bill Gates only leased DOS to IBM and did not sell it outright.
The "Girly" man
Al Gore was putting forward the view that the automotive industry should be encouraged to increase fuel economy in their products. Also that the US should be actively involved in pioneering alternative fuels in the 1990's.
But even now, with bio-fuels being espoused in the media, it is completely ignored, that making it from corn costs as much in energy to produce as it saves in oil. The only really effective way is to create it from sugar. But of course the only lobby being listened to in Washington is the corn lobby.
In Europe government backed nuclear science is working towards making fusion power-plants a reality in 20 years time. In front of the US Senate Al Gore was only asked if he backed fission reactors.
No "values"
Al Gore was attacked in the media for being godless, simply because he would not admit that God had a role to play in science (which He doesn't).
That's just the tip of the iceberg. In 2000 the US of A had the chance of electing a President worthy of the great nation it had become. The media destroyed Al Gore, and pandered to the morons.
Why should Al Gore run? The media in the US is still as moronic as it ever was. They have the "illustrious" Tucker on MSNBC but Phil Donahue is still in the wilderness http://www.democracynow.org/...
The only respectable journalist talking truth to power is Keith Olberman. Jon Stewart, Bill Maher and Stephen Colbert have more journalistic integrity than most of what passes for journalism in the media in the US.
Is it not strange, that if you want to find out about the election fraud propagated on the US by Bush in 2000 and 2004 you have to go to the BBC, because it is not deemed newsworthy in the MSM?
My first diary was validly criticised because the title was too cryptic, so I made the title of my second one less so.
2007 and 2008 should not be "Al Gore won the Nobel Peace Prize, so now he should run for President". The rest of this year and the next should be a reflection that "the 30 second sound-bite" is not what journalists or the media should espouse to. Leave the morons to Fox News and stop the pigeon-holing.
