...about taxes hurt Walter Mondale. So, is it hurting Howard Dean in the primary and will it hurt him in a general election?
Much talk about Kerry's and Edwards' upward movement in the polls (and at the polls) is attributed to a single factor; for Kerry it is his war hero status; and for Edwards it is/was his positive message.
Now, Deaniacs like to claim that both of these guys began there climbs after they starting sounding like Dean. I am sympathetic to that argument, but I wonder how many voters are turned-off of Dean because he is not telling them what they want to hear.
Now, I want to beleive that people will respond to a candid candidate, who says what he/she believes is possible, but I am not convinced.
So, write what you will, but please also, or only answer these two questions: (1)Do you beleive that Dean is losing supporters to other candidates because of his position on tax-cuts, i.e. that he wants to repeal them completely in order to pay for his initiatives and to balance the budget? (2)If yes, what does that portend for American Democracy?
