George Tenet, yesterday, resigning as CIA Director:
Whatever our shortcomings, the American people know that we constantly evaluate our performance, always strive to do better and always tell the truth. These are our values as professional intelligence officers.
Why lie so brazenly about honesty? When there's no cause? That the CIA engages in covert operations is not among its many secrets. Its job - its mission - demands secrecy and dishonesty. Maybe there's nothing wrong with that. But why not at least own up to that fact?
