Democratic Congressman Rangel suggested that President Bush should appeal to Americans to volunteer for service in Iraq. I completely agree with this idea.
"At the very least the President should spend some of his political capital and publicly appeal to Americans to volunteer for service in Iraq," Cong. Rangel said. "He should go on television and explain why this war is important enough for parents to put their sons and daughters in harm's way."

Bush has been running around the country trying to destroy Social Security. Hello! George Bush? Do you remember that preemptive war in Iraq that you started for no truthful reason?
Well, the war is still going on. Before you take away my Social Security benefits, I would much prefer that you get us out of the mess in Iraq that you started.
Don't simply forget about the war in Iraq like it doesn't exist. People are dying. You have not focused on providing them with the armor and other protection that they need to survive.
You need to go on television and explain why in the hell we are over there and how completely lacking in troops our military is. What? Oh, you don't want the public to be aware of how badly the war is going. You do not want the public to be aware that our troop shortage puts our nation at risk. Gotcha! Keep using distraction politics and pray hard the the American public does not wake up.
"Recruiters are so desperate to get people in the military that some have been lying, misleading and even counseling recruits about how to cover up drug use," Cong. Rangel said. "They've been using the economic draft, enticing poor and rural kids to sign up with big bonuses and education benefits. But even that no longer seems to be working. There ought to be a more universal, patriotic appeal than money, and the President is the person who should make it."

Congressman Rangel is clearly tired of the recruiters preying on the poor. Wow. This actually makes sense. If Bush thinks that this war is so damn important, then he should appeal to all Americans.
In mid-19th-century Ireland, recruiting sergeants preyed upon poor Irish boys, promising them adventure, honor, fine clothes and romance instead of pre- and post-potato-famine destitution. Poverty and ignorance have always been the military recruiter's best friends.
The problem is Bush thinks everything is about money. He thinks we can buy the kids into the military. HA. HA. Guess what? The country bumpkin poor kids actually realize that it is pretty fucking hard to spend money when you are dead!!!
Message to Bush and other Republicans: not everyone thinks that money is the root of all happiness.
