Pakistan helps pay off an Afgani tribe's debt to Al-Qaeda.
Pakistan says it has paid 32m rupees ($540,000) to help four former wanted tribal militants in South Waziristan settle debts with al-Qaeda.
Military operations chief in the region, Lt Gen Safdar Hussain, said the payments were part of a peace deal signed on Monday with tribesmen.
It is the first time Pakistan has admitted making such payments.
So, this begs the question, is Pakistan a state sponsor of terrorism now? If things go the way the did when
Pakistan's top nuclear scientist was pardoned for selling nuclear secrets to North Korea, Libya, and Iran, my guess is it will be quietly ignored by both the US media (as of writing this I've seen nothing on
CNN or
Yahoo News) and the Administration. After all, Pakistan is helping us with the War on Terrorism (read: "invade countries we don't like"), so we'll overlook their giving aid to our enemies.
