I usually don't read
Take Back the Media,
because part of the format there is black print on a red background, and it makes my eyeballs bleed.
However, I clicked over there today and found a posting with a list of
Rush Limbaugh's principal sponsors and corporate e-mail addresses to send protests to.
I glanced over the list. It's posted at
http://www.takebackthemedia.com/...
In my own commercial habits I find I was mostly innocent. Most of those firms I don't do business with, anyway. I exempted Pfizer because their veterinary subsidiary makes Rimadyl, a wonder drug that saved my dog's quality of life, and the Neptune Society because I think their business model is neat.
However, I do have a Geico policy. I sent the e-mail below to one of the corporate addresses there:
Dear Ms Tasher:
I've been a happy policyholder of Geico's -
Geico policy # [XXX-XX-X] - for some years now.
I like Geico's competitive price strategy,
friendly customer service, and, until recently,
I liked the advertising. Those cute little geckos
in the tv ads. Please don't change the tv ads.
HOWEVER, it's recently been mentioned to me that
GEICO radio advertising provides
significant revenue for the drug-crazed
hater-monger Rush Limbaugh.
I don't want to be associated with that.
My policy expires in August, and Cindy [XXXXX],
the State Farm agent that I have my home owner's insurance with,
would love to replace Geico
as my car insurance agent. (She sends me little flyers.)
Are you gonna drop Rush? Or am I gonna drop Geico?
Let me know what you think -
Christopher H. Walker
p.s. Cindy - since I'm cc'ing you on this -
does State Farm buy ad time on any rightwing
anti-gay radio shows?
Were you guys all already familiar with this boycott idea?
