This is going to be a shory diary, but the information is important and needs to be sent out to any and all conservatives you know.
Read the following!
George Bush has added $7.048 trillion dollars to the national debt since taking office.
How do we get to that number, easy, see below the fold.
When George came into office, the national debt was $5.628 trillion dollars and it now stands at $9.788 trillion dollars.
Adding in the estimated $1 trillion dollars that this bailout will cost us, then we have $10.788 trillion dollars.
When George came into offce he inherited a $236 billion dollar surplus.
If George had not passed his ridiculous tax cuts for the rich and started his ridiculous war in Iraq then we could easily assume that we would have enjoyed those budget surpluses for the entire 8 years.
So 236 * 8 = $1.888 trillion dollars in surpluses.
$5.628 trillion - $1.888 trillion = $3.740 trillion, the remaining debt that would be left when George left office had he not enacted his ridiculous tax cuts and his ridiculous war.
$10.788 trillion - $3.740 trillion = $7.048 trillion dollars of debt that George Bush has left this country.
At 100 million households that equals $70,480 per household of debt that has to be repaid.
Factoring in interest of nearly $500 billion dollars a year then that will add in another $45,000 dollars per household over the next 8 years.
So in order to pay off George Bushs debt within 8 years each household in America would have to pay roughly $115,000 dollars total or $14,372 each year or $1,197 dollars per month.
That is just the debt that George and George alone ran up and cannot be attributed to anyone else but George Bush and the Republicans who enabled him.
So please, if you have any wingnut friends that still think George Bush is great, or that the Republicans are somehow fiscally responsible, please inform them that George Bush indebeted them to the tune of $115,000 dollars minimum.
It really is staggering how much damage George Bush has done to this country. This is all in the face of significantly larger deficits and an impending baby boom retirement that will swamp the federal budget like a tidal wave. But I'm not going to get into all that, this is just a beginning to end view of his presidency and the debt that he left every household in America.
As I said, it is simply staggering...
