The price of gasoline has begun its decline in preparation for the next election. Democrats running for office this election period are going to have to point to gasoline prices coming down in the run up to the election as a ploy by Big Oil companies to influence the elections in favor of Republicans. If we don't, the impact of lowering gasoline prices will act as a boost to the Republicans who will claim that their hands-off, free market policies have lead to the drop in gasoline prices. The euphoria from the relief that consumers feel from having adjusted their budgets to deal with higher gasoline prices to suddenly having a little more money to spend on other things, will translate into votes for Republicans. This will happen unless Democrats name the decrease in gasoline prices as political manipulation by Big Oil.
Oil prices will not come down as much as gasoline prices before the election, providing clear evidence that this is a political manipulation. Oil companies will squeeze their profits in an attempt to maintain the extremely warm relations they currently have with the House and Senate. A relationship that is extremely warm because of their Republican majorities. Big Oil is also lowering its gasoline prices to improve on its image before the general public during this election period. So, don't be afraid to talk about this issue. If Democrats ignore this issue it will come back to haunt them in the next election. Work this to our advantage!
